Fully refined paraffin wax is a versatile wax that is still the best choice for making dripless moulded candles.

How to use

Chop up the wax slabs with an axe or a rubber mallet.  Melt the chunks of wax in a double boiler on an electric stove or in a wax melter.  if you don’t have a double boiler you can make your own by placing the pot of wax chunks in a large frying pan.  Fill the frying pan with water.

Create stunning marbled effects by using this wax as is, with no additives.  If you prefer a solid white finish, add 0.25% of white colour.  Adding 10% stearic acid to your paraffin wax will extend burn time and remove marbling.

Pour the melted paraffin wax in acrylic candle moulds for best results and pair with correctly sized LX wicks for optimal burning.  By pouring your candles at 75°C – 85°C you will achieve a sleek, glossy look. Use a thermometer to ensure that the melted wax has reached the desired temperature.  Don’t hesitate to experiment with much lower pouring temperatures also.     Explore our exquisite fragrance oils and dye flakes for endless customization possibilities.

Safety first

DO NOT melt paraffin wax over an open flame, for example on a fire or a gas stove.   Avoid melting paraffin wax in a microwave.  Instead, melt paraffin wax in a double boiler on an electric stove.

Troubleshooting

Fully refined paraffin wax is not the best choice for silicone candle moulds with detailing.  Rather use IW3F wax instead.

Q & A

Goodday Do you have to spray the moulds with something like cook n spray for the candles to come out easily or is it not necessary, especially the silicone mould Leatitia asked on 16/05/2024

Hi Leatitia, fortunately one doesn't need a mould release agent for silicone moulds. You would simply peel away the mould.

Can I melt wax using a gas stove Lerato asked on 21/03/2024

Thanks for your question, Lerato! Paraffin wax is flammable. For your own safety it is advisable to avoid open flames (like a gas stove). Rather use an electric stove if you can. Take full safety precautions when melting any paraffin wax - melt your wax in a double boiler or place the melting pot in a pan of water. Never leave the melting wax unattended (even to answer the phone).
